Good Friday Procession of Witness

Every Good Friday members from the Banstead Five Churches parade through the town stopping at various points to recall the meaning of Christ's sacrifice.

During Lent we followed the Lenten Cross programme, from Tragedy to Triumph.
We stripped the branches from our Christmas tree, and made it into a large cross. By using the Christmas tree we immediately linked the gift of Christmas in Bethlehem with the sacrifice of Calvary.

The Cross stood at the front of the church for all to see and each week symbols were placed on or around the Cross after an appropriate Bible reading referring to that symbol. For example, we hung a moneybag with thirty pieces of silver on the Cross and we we added the bread and wine and a bowl and towel. On the fourth Sunday we added a purple robe and a crown of thorns. On Passion Sunday, a whip was placed on the cross and on Palm Sunday a palm branch. On Good Friday three nails were nailed into the cross.

On Easter Sunday, the symbols were taken away and replaced with a covering of Spring flowers brought by members of the congregation. The stark cross was converted from tragedy to triumph!

The original idea was brought back from America in 1988, by Peter Shilling - Minister now at St Johns Methodist church in Llandudno.

The Drivers

THE DRIVERS
is our church's adult group which meets on the third Monday of each month from September to June each year.

The group is for the entertainment and pleasure of all our church adherents.

During the course of our season we have two meals, numerous and varied talks by various speakers, a quiz evening and a games evening. The latter two are always plenty of fun, with the fellowship and humor far outweighing the need to win!

Picture above shows a recent meeting with the Surrey Air Ambulance.

Operation Christmas Child
A project of Samaritan's Purse International

In conjunction with other churches and schools, we take part in Operation Christmas Child. Volunteers are invited to fill a shoe box with gifts. These are then sent to countries where this shoe box of gifts may be the only Christmas Present received by a child. Operation Christmas Child sends 1.3 million boxes from Great Britain every year.
